US Customs officially ends the collection of some tariffs

by Marcelo Moreira

The US Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) said it will suspend tariffs imposed by Donald Trump’s government and overturned by the Supreme Court starting this Tuesday (24).

Last Friday, when the high court’s decision was released, the White House leader declared that he would use other legislative resources at his disposal to maintain taxes on imports entering the US. He then challenged the Supreme Court with a new 10% global tariff, which he raised to 15% on Saturday.

At Truth Social, the Republican said the increase would be immediate.

In the statement, CBP reported that the suspension of the tariff will only affect products taxed based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which was the subject of analysis by the superior court magistrates. Other charges imposed by Trump will continue to be levied.

The Supreme Court ruling affects the basic global tariff on foreign imports and so-called reciprocal duties on trading partners of the world’s largest economy.

Included are the Republican’s decisions to increase tariffs to Brazil and India by up to 50%, in retaliation for the legal case against former president Jair Bolsonaro and the purchase of Russian oil, respectively.
