Veterans of the war in Ukraine will train German soldiers in drone operations and in defense against enemy attacks.
The agreement was signed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to The mirror.
Talks between the Bundeswehr and Ukrainian authorities have been taking place since 2025, focusing on leveraging the experience gained in combat against Russian forces. The initiative aims to strengthen the operational capabilities of German troops, especially in scenarios of modern warfare.
Key elements of the cooperation include the tactical use of drones, protection against enemy assaults, and the application of simple digital systems for planning and command of operations. German officers emphasized that Ukraine currently holds the greatest amount of practical combat experience within NATO.
Unlike German systems, which were developed in peacetime and are considered complex, Ukrainian solutions have been tested directly on the front lines and are continuously being refined. Ukrainian veterans are expected to arrive in Germany soon, where they will primarily contribute to the training of infantry units.
