Russia has placed about 100 fighter and attack aircraft, including newer models, in the storage area of the Lipetsk air base.
The information was shared by the Ukrainian portal Militarnyiwhich cited an analysis of the profile The Military Watchwhich posted satellite images on its X profile.
In early 2022, the storage area housed 57 MiG-29 fighter planes, 25 MiG-31 interceptor aircraft, two Su-24 bombers, three Su-25 fighter jets and seven Su-27 fighter planes.
After the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine, some aircraft began to disappear from storage. Especially one MiG-31 no longer appears on satellite images.
Militarnyi speculates that it may have been used as a source of spare parts for modernized ones MiG-31Kwhich serve as carriers for Kinzhal-missiles.
Two MiG-29 were also removed, probably to preserve the flying capacity of the operational aircraft or to fulfill export contracts. At the same time two became Su-24 and one Su-27 added to the storage area.
Additional aircraft were registered in 2025: one MiG-29three MiG-31four Su-24four Su-25a frontline bomber Su-34 and eight aircraft from the Sukhoifamily, of which reportedly at least four Su-35 are fighter planes.
