Donald Trump is being heavily criticized after making “stupid” comments about the design of the United States Navy’s new class of warships.

The new vessel in the class Trumpnamed in honor of the American president, will be part of the “Golden Fleet” and already has some plans defined for its design.

The American Navy, for example, believes that the new ship should be equipped with lasers powerful enough to shoot down ballistic missiles or hypersonic weapons.

But while military vessels have traditionally focused on functionality, it appears the Trump administration is more interested in appearances.

Previously, Secretary of the Navy John Phelan said in his X profile that the class ship Trump “it will be the most beautiful warship in all the oceans of the world.”

This idea was recently reinforced by Trump during a speech in Texas to military families. “In the new warship we have, which I saw and helped design, I put a little more spirit into the hull,” he said.

“I want this craft to be stunning. Forget about stealth. They say, ‘Oh, it’s stealthy’. They design ugly equipment to be stealthy, but we’re designing equipment that looks great, and it’s also stealthy.”

These comments generated a lot of negative reaction on social media. Jeff Timera political strategist who previously worked with the Republican Party and is a senior advisor to the Lincoln Project, appeared on his X profile to react to the video, saying, “On top of everything else, he’s just really stupid.”

“The only good thing about this madness is that these ships will never be built,” he said. Tom Nicholswriter, academic, international affairs expert and retired US Naval War College professor.

“Military ships are not sports cars. They are built not to be blown up. Stealth is not about being ‘ugly’, but rather about appearing discreetly on radar. Why is he the president?”, said an internet user in response to the clip.
