The Rio de Janeiro Military Police reported that more than 140 people were arrested in the first days of Carnival, during security operations carried out in different regions of the state. The arrests took place on Friday and Saturday, in the context of reinforced policing for block and megablock parades.
The actions included the installation of blocking points and carrying out searches at the entrances to events, aiming to prevent the entry of objects that could put partygoers at risk. In total, more than 70 sharp materials were seized during the inspections.
In the traditional Cordão do Bola Preta parade, held on Saturday morning in the center of Rio, police officers collected 66 objects of this type only when approaching the party’s entry points.
According to the corporation, the scheme is part of the security planning set up to guarantee public peace of mind during the carnival period.
