United States President Donald Trump announced that more than US$5 billion will be allocated to the newly created Gaza Peace Council. The information was disclosed in a post on the president’s own social networks.
According to Trump, the amounts promised by the group’s member countries will be applied to humanitarian actions and the reconstruction of Palestinian territory. He also stated that the nations involved have committed to sending thousands of soldiers to form a stabilization force with UN authorization.
The North American, however, did not specify which countries are part of the Peace Council nor did he detail how the resources will be distributed.
Brazil was invited to join the group, but has not yet formally responded. President Lula conditioned eventual Brazilian participation on ensuring that the initiative focuses exclusively on the Gaza Strip and includes Palestinian representatives in its composition.
