Professor Juliana Faustino’s widower, Vinicius de Oliveira, was discharged from hospital this Sunday (15), after spending eight days in hospital, seven of them in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He had been hospitalized after feeling unwell after leaving the pool at a gym in the east of São Paulo.
The main line of investigation by the São Paulo Civil Police points to possible chlorine poisoning. Among the hypotheses investigated is that the chemical product was handled inappropriately by an employee without technical qualifications, which may have caused the release of toxic gases into the environment.
Vinicius presented symptoms on the same day that his wife also fell ill, right after swimming class.
In addition to Vinicius and his wife, five other students also reported feeling unwell.
The gym was closed by the city hall, and the three members of the establishment were charged with homicide with possible intent, when the risk of causing death is assumed.
