Around 250,000 people occupied the streets of the German city, Munich, in an act against the Iranian government. According to local police, opponents of the ayatollahs’ regime came from different European countries to participate in the mobilization.
The protest coincided with the Munich Security Conference, which brings together international leaders and authorities in the German city. During the event, protesters called for a change in political command in Tehran and showed support for exiled opposition leader Reza Pahlavi.
Son of the last Iranian shah, Pahlavi spoke to the crowd and declared his willingness to return to the country to lead a transition towards democracy.
The acts took place on the eve of a new round of negotiations in Geneva between Iranian representatives and US envoys. US President Donald Trump has stated that he prefers a diplomatic way out of the impasse with Tehran, although he has reinforced the military presence in the Middle East and does not rule out possible armed action.
