This Saturday (14), the body of Benício Araújo Machado, aged 8, was buried, killed by his father, secretary Thales Neves Alves Machado. Benício had been hospitalized for two days in a very serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Itumbiara State Hospitalbut he couldn’t resist. The ceremony took place in ItumbiaraGoiás. The eldest son, Miguel Araújo Machado, aged 12, also died after being shot by his father.
According to Civil Policethere is no suspicion of other people being involved in the crime. The deaths took place at the family residence. According to the investigation, Thales shot his two children and then took his own life. The case came to light when relatives saw a farewell message published on the secretary’s profile, which was removed shortly afterwards. In it, Thales pointed to a scenario of conflict in the relationship and mentioned betrayal. The post also contained religious references, including passages asking for forgiveness.
The governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiadopublished a message on social media expressing solidarity with the case. “I ask God to give strength to all who suffer from these losses. May faith and unity help everyone to go through this difficult time”, he said.
Thales was part of the municipal administration and was the son-in-law of the mayor of Itumbiara, Dione Araújo. Itumbiara City Hall declared an official mourning period of three days.
