BMW invests in technologies that automate the use of directional lights in their vehicles to solve the unwillingness of many drivers signal a change in direction.
On some brand models, such as the BMW IX and i5 on the market in 2024, it is already possible to activate the rudder and even overtake only the view, provided that the GPS and the autonomous management regime are active.
This technology is further improved with the advent of the new BMW IX3, which is planned for the end of the year. The model will present the “Heart of Joy” system, an electronic center that integrates all car driving functions, uses artificial intelligence and promises almost immediate reactions. As a result, the interaction between the driver and the vehicle becomes smoother and more intuitive.
The next step, according to BMW, is to make the rudders fully automatic. The system should be able to analyze the context, such as the usual driver’s route, traffic signs and GPS data, and activate the rudder before the driver decides to change the direction.
This proposal is further progress in the field of assisted control and interaction between man and machine.
