The city of Rio de Janeiro remains on alert for high temperatures until next Monday (16), with thermometers being able to register 38ºC, according to Sistema Alerta Rio, the City Hall’s meteorological service. The maximums this Friday reached 39.2ºC and Rio de Janeiro entered Heat Level 3, which means that temperatures will remain high between 36ºC and 40ºC for the next three days.
Also according to the Rio Alert System, the Carnival weekend will be one of high temperatures and few clouds throughout the day. On Tuesday (17), thermometers remain high, but there is a forecast of isolated rain in the afternoon and evening.
The Municipal Health Department recommends some precautions for very hot days, such as: increasing your intake of water and natural juices, even when you are not thirsty; consume light foods such as fruits; use sunscreen and light clothing; avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially from 10 am to 4 pm; avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages and those with high sugar content, in addition to taking extra care with children and the elderly.
In cases of dizziness, malaise or other symptoms linked to heat stress, the Secretariat also recommends going to a health unit such as Emergency Care Units (UPAs), hospitals and regional emergency centers, which operate 24 hours a day and this Carnival, will provide uninterrupted service.
