The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has announced that it will provide R $ 70 billion in financing lines for the 2025/2026 crop plan. The amount is the highest ever offered by the bank to the agricultural sector and represents an increase of 5% over the previous year. Despite nominal growth, the increase does not correspond to a real elevation, as the amount is below the accumulated inflation in the last 12 months.
The Safra Plan is one of the main initiatives of the federal government to financially support farmers through loans with lower interest rates than those practiced by private institutions. Of this total announced by BNDES, R $ 39.7 billion will be accessible through the federal government’s agricultural programs. The remaining R $ 30.3 billion will come from the institution’s own resources, offered through the BNDES Credit Rural Line.
Within the equilizable resources of government programs, R $ 26.3 billion are intended for business agriculture, aimed at average and large producers, with interest rates between 8.5% and 14% per year. Family farming will have R $ 13.4 billion, with interest between 0.5% and 8% per year. These values represent, respectively, an increase of 19% and 9% over the previous crop. In addition, the North and Northeast regions will receive R $ 532 million exclusive to small producers of these areas, 80% higher than the previous cycle.
BNDES’s own lines include the possibility of hiring with a cost linked to the dollar, totaling R $ 14.4 billion. This option is mainly focused on the exporting sector of agribusiness, which has foreign currency revenues. Since its inception, the dollar line has approved about R $ 9 billion, with more than 95% of this amount intended for the acquisition of machinery and equipment.
Financing may be contracted directly with BNDES or through more than 80 accredited partner financial institutions throughout the country. The Safra Plan, which began on July 1, provides for a total rural credit of R $ 516.2 billion, including other sources besides BNDES. The expectation for the 2025 crop is a record harvest of 333.3 million tons of grain, according to IBGE projection.
