Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade, subordinate to the 17th Army Corps, announced that it has carried out the first confirmed intercept of a Russian Klin kamikaze drone in the Orikhiv region.

The action was conducted with the use of a Ukrainian interceptor drone, marking a new chapter in the technological war fought in the airspace of the conflict.

According to the Ukrainian military, the Klin is a Shahed-type system equipped with an AI-based guidance system. The model adopts a canard aerodynamic configuration, with a front horizontal stabilizer, and was reportedly introduced by Russian forces about four months ago.

The drone can operate autonomously, identifying and attacking targets up to 120 kilometers away with the help of a repeater, as well as functioning as a sort of “aerial minefield”, standing by for up to 80 minutes. With a maximum takeoff weight of 13.5 kg, the Klin reaches speeds of between 108 and 300 km/h, flies up to 2 kilometers altitude and carries a 5 kg warhead, with hollow charge or high explosive options, including an air detonation system.

Previously released images indicate that parts of the equipment, such as the optical module, were produced via 3D printing. In another recent incident, Ukrainian forces also reported the destruction of a Russian Shtorm reconnaissance drone, about which little public information is still available.
