China accuses Trump of trying to interfere with Bolsonaro’s trial

The XI Jinping regime manifested on Friday (11) about the tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump to Brazil.

In a statement, China’s Ministry of Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, stated that the measure announced by the United States government aims to interfere with the Brazilian government’s internal affairs, referring to the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro, the target of a lawsuit in the Supreme Court (STF) for alleged coup plot.

“Sovereign equality and non -interference on internal affairs are important principles of the UN letter and basic standards of international relations. Tariffs should not be used as an instrument of coercion, intimidation or interference in internal affairs in other countries,” said the XI regime representative on the collection of 50% Brazilian import tax directed to the United States.

This is the second statement of the XI regime since the announcement for Brazil on Wednesday (9). The day before, the Chinese folder had already stated that it considered the measure “abusive”.

“China has always opposed initiatives that overload the concept of national security and has always argued that commercial and tariff wars have no winners, and that the abuse of tariffs interests no one,” said spokesman Mao Ning on Thursday (10).

On the 9th, Trump announced that the 50% tariff about products from Brazil will start valid in August. At the time, he justified the measure based on “unfair” commercial relations and political persecution of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

According to the US representative, the Brazilian government acts with injustice “in the way Bolsonaro treats”, which is being tried in the Supreme Court for attempted coup, after losing the elections from 2022 to Lula.

Since the beginning of the week, the White House leader has been criticizing Brazil’s attitude towards Bolsonaro’s trial.

On Monday, he published in Truth Social: “Brazil is acting terrible in the treatment given to former President Jair Bolsonaro. I noticed, just like the world, as they did nothing but chased it, day after day, night after night, month after year!

“I met Jair Bolsonaro, and he was a strong leader who really loved his country – besides, a very hard negotiator in commerce. His election was very fierce and now he is leading the polls,” Trump added, saying that the judicial process against former Brazilian president “is just an attack on a political opponent,” something he said to be familiar.

“This has happened to me, ten times, and now our country is the ‘warmest’ in the world! The great people in Brazil will not tolerate what they are doing to their former president,” he said.
