Ukraine’s 118th Independent Mechanized Brigade (subordinate to the 17th Corps) announced that it had confirmed and intercepted the Russian self-destructive drone Klin for the first time in the Orihiu region.

This operation was carried out using Ukrainian interceptor drones and represents a new phase of technological warfare taking place in contested airspace.

According to the Ukrainian military, the Klin is a Shahed series aircraft and is equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI)-based guidance system. It adopts a canard aerodynamic configuration with a front horizontal stabilizer, and is said to have been introduced by the Russian military about four months ago.

This drone operates autonomously and can identify and attack targets up to 120 km away through a repeater. Additionally, it can remain on standby for up to 80 minutes and operate like a kind of ‘air minefield’. The maximum take-off weight is 13.5 kg, and it flies at a speed of 108 to 300 km per hour and up to an altitude of 2 km. It carries a 5kg warhead and can be equipped with shaped charge bomb or high explosive bomb options and an aerial explosion system.

According to previously released photos, some parts, such as the optical module, appear to have been produced through 3D printing. In another recent case, the Ukrainian military said it had shot down a Russian reconnaissance drone Shtorm, but there is still not much public information about the aircraft.
