The Central Bank of Brazil (BC) publicly reported the occurrence of a security incident involving personal data linked to Pix keys under the responsibility of Banco Agibank SA. According to the monetary authority, the exposure was caused by specific failures in the financial institution’s systems.
In an official note, the BC detailed that the exposure did not include sensitive data. Information under banking secrecy, such as passwords, financial balances or history of transactions in transactional accounts, remained protected. The data accessed is strictly cadastral in nature, which prevents the movement of resources or direct access to the bank accounts of affected customers.
Victims of the incident will be notified about obtaining their registration data. The Central Bank emphasizes that this notification will occur exclusively through the application or the internet banking of the user’s relationship institution.
To avoid scams and fraud attempts, the BC warns that neither the municipality nor the participating institutions use other communication channels for this purpose. No contact will be made via messaging applications (such as WhatsApp), phone calls, SMS or email.
