BMW invests in technologies that automate the use of turn signals in their vehicles, with the aim of solving many drivers reluctance to signal the change of direction.
In some of the brand’s models, such as BMW IX and i5 launched in 2024, it is already possible to activate the turn signal and even overhaul with a glance as long as GPS and autonomous driving are activated.
This technology is further developed with the new BMW IX3, which is expected to be launched at the end of the year. The model introduces the system “Heart of Joy”, an electronic hub that integrates all the car’s control functions using artificial intelligence and promises almost immediate reactions. It makes the interaction between driver and car more fluid and intuitive.
The next step, according to BMW, is to make the turn signal completely automatically. The system will be able to analyze the context, such as the driver’s usual route, road signs and GPS data, to activate the flashlight even before the driver decides to change direction.
This action represents yet another progress in the concept of assisted driving and human-machine interaction.
