A single unit of the 1020th Air Defense Missile and Artillery Regiment destroyed three Shahed drones during low-altitude air defense operations on the same night.
The operation was carried out using the GRAY WIDOW-1i interceptor drone, which is an improved version of the GRAY WIDOW 1 kamikaze drone.
The manufacturer, Nebesna Kara According to GRAY WIDOW-1i, it combines versatility and performance, operating in a speed range of 90 km/h to 260 km/h. This allows the vehicle to conduct long patrols as well as to respond quickly to identified air threats.
The operating time depends on the type of mission: it can reach up to 40 minutes in active homing mode, it can decrease to 20 minutes in mixed mode, and it is limited to about seven minutes in the case of maximum speed interception. The operational range reaches 30 km, the maximum flight altitude is 6,000 meters and it can carry a 1.1 kg warhead.
The system is still undergoing field testing with optical guidance and already has operational experience through previous versions used by Ukrainian special forces.
The regiment also came into the limelight recently when one of its soldiers, known as ‘Miguel’, shot down 24 Shahed drones in a single night, setting a milestone in air defense operations.
