In an audience held at the Chicago Court this Friday (11) Ovidio Guzman Lopez, son of Mexican drug dealer “El Chapo”, declared to blame for accusations of drug trafficking.
“El Raton” or “Raton Nuevo”, as he is known in the world of crime, has 35 and inherited the leadership of the cartel founded by his father. He faces two accusations of drug distribution and two accusations of participation in continuous criminal venture. Lopez made a court agreement with the prosecutors but can still get life imprisonment.
He woke up in the postponement of his sentence but acknowledged that he committed drug trafficking crimes, money laundering and illegal possession of firearms. Lopez also admitted to the authorities that he supervised production and smuggling of large amounts of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine and fentanil for the United States.
Prosecutors claim that Lopez and his brother – known as “The Chapitos” – revived the Sialoa card after their father’s arrest in 2016. They also believe that both profited millions of drug smuggling, in particular, Fentanil.
Fentanil is a highly lethal drug and, only in 2023, killed almost 200 Americans a day.
Joaquin Guzman Lopez, Ovidio’s brother, was arrested in El Paso along with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the leader of the Slander Cartal in July, after the US government officials convinced Joaquin to attract Zambada to the US on a private plane.
Both Joaquin – whose prosecutors already say they will not ask for the death penalty – and Zambada declared themselves innocent before the crimes accused.
HAS ReutersZambada’s lawyers stated that he would consider himself to be guilty if he was spared the death penalty.
The famous trafficker El Chapo is serving a perpetual penalty for drug trafficking in a maximum security in Colorado since 2019.
Already Ovidio, in 2023, was extradited from Mexico to the US as part of the war policy imposed by the federal government against the Fentanil.
