Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade, subordinate to the 17th Army Corps, announced that it has carried out the first confirmed interception of a Russian Klin kamikaze drone in the Orikhiv region.

The action was conducted using a Ukrainian interceptor drone, marking a new chapter in the technological war waged in the conflict’s airspace.

According to the Ukrainian military, the Klin is a Shahed-type equipment equipped with a guidance system based on artificial intelligence. The model adopts a canard aerodynamic configuration, with a front horizontal stabilizer, and was reportedly introduced by Russian forces around four months ago.

The drone can operate autonomously, identifying and attacking targets up to 120 kilometers away with the help of a repeater, in addition to acting as a type of “aerial minefield”, remaining on standby for up to 80 minutes. With a maximum take-off weight of 13.5 kg, the Klin reaches speeds between 108 and 300 km/h, flies at an altitude of up to 2 kilometers and carries a 5 kg warhead, with molded charge or high explosive options, including an aerial detonation system.

Previously released images indicate that parts of the equipment, such as the optical module, were produced by 3D printing. In another recent episode, Ukrainian forces also reported the destruction of a Russian Shtorm reconnaissance drone, about which little information is publicly available.
