Russia has concentrated at least 15 Su-57 fighters at the Dzyomgi air base, in the Khabarovsk region, in the country’s Far East, around 280 kilometers from the border with China.
Satellite images dated February 9, released by the AviVector project, show the aircraft parked outdoors. In the same location, 18 Su-35S fighters, three MiG-31BM interceptors and two Mi-8 helicopters also appear.
The total number of Su-57s in operation is still considered low. There is photographic confirmation of at least 16 units, in addition to examples recently delivered to the Russian Aerospace Forces. Including prototypes and early production aircraft, the fleet is estimated at between 20 and 25 planes, indicating that a significant portion of the available fighters are concentrated in a single base.
Dzyomgi’s choice is not accidental. The base is close to the Gagarin Aircraft Factory, in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, responsible for assembling the Su-57 and part of the United Aircraft Corporation. Some of the aircraft may still be in the operational testing and capacity improvement phase, requiring direct technical support from the industrial complex.

Another factor highlighted is the protection of strategic assets. By positioning fighters in the Far East, Moscow is keeping them further away from the combat zone in Ukraine and under the cover of regional air defense systems. The measure comes after Ukrainian drone attacks hit at least two Su-57s at the Akhtubinsk base in June 2024, when the parking area was the target of an offensive that would have caused significant damage.
