DF court rejects actions against samba school that will honor Lula

by Marcelo Moreira

The Federal District Court rejected two lawsuits questioning the Acadêmicos de Niterói samba school for honoring President Lula in this year’s plot. Judge Francisco Valle Brum denied the requests of senator Damares Alves (Republicans) and federal deputy Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil) claiming that the requirements for a popular action were not met.

“It is necessary to conclude, therefore, in the same sense, that is, that the demand does not meet the necessary conditions for its continuation, due to the inadequacy of the chosen route. In view of the above, I reject the initial petition and consider the process terminated”, defined the magistrate.

At the time, Damares and Kataguiri complained that the plot would constitute a misuse of purpose, by promoting the President of the Republic in an election year. This Tuesday (10), the Partido Novo filed a representation with the Superior Electoral Court accusing President Lula, the PT and Acadêmicos de Niterói of early electoral propaganda and demanded a fine of R$9.65 million. The case has not yet been analyzed by the TSE. It is the first time that Acadêmicos de Niterói will parade in the Rio de Janeiro Carnival Special Group.
