The Colombian Army has strengthened its armored personnel carrier force with the deployment of 11 additional M1117 Guardian ASV vehicles, bringing the total number of vehicles in service in the country to 156 as part of a modernization program.
also, Colombia receives additional 33 M1117s donated by the United States. This has been achieved through bilateral cooperation agreements to carry out missions in priority areas.
According to the Army, the new vehicles will be used in high-risk operational areas where the presence of armed groups, drug trafficking and organized crime requires greater protection, mobility and responsiveness of troops. The goal is to strengthen territorial control and ensure the safety of civilians during ongoing operations.
The M1117 Guardian has multi-layer armor and a day and night vision system, allowing it to operate in both urban and rural areas. These characteristics allow it to conduct patrols, convoy missions, and operate in a variety of terrains and threat levels, while improving the safety of its personnel.
Colombian Army Commander Major General Royer Gómez Herrera said the introduction of armored vehicles was part of strengthening cooperation with the United States. The donated vehicles will be deployed specifically in the Cauca, Catatumbo and Arauca regions, contributing to the stabilization of these areas and the protection of local communities.
