Buenos Aires experienced a tense afternoon this Wednesday (11), due to a violent protest against the labor reform proposed by Argentine president, Javier Milei, which generated a reaction from security forces.
According to information from the EFE agency and the Clarín newspaper, left-wing protesters threw stones, bottles, Molotov cocktails and other objects at police officers in the Congress area, where the proposal is being debated in the Senate.
The first information indicates that three Argentine Federal Police (PFA) agents were injured and two people were arrested.
Security forces responded with pepper spray, tear gas and rubber bullets and directed a water cannon at protesters.
The protests, which are also being held in other cities, such as Córdoba, were called by social organizations, political groups and unions, including the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the largest union center in the country.
Among the central points of the bill are the creation of a Labor Assistance Fund (FAL, in its Spanish acronym) to pay for dismissal compensation, the reduction of the calculation basis for these compensations, changes in the payment of overtime and the limitation of the right to strike.
As agreed in the previous parliamentary session, the initiative will be voted first in general terms and then subjected to 26 separate votes, one for each article of the project, which should make the session go until dawn.
