The Public Ministry of Santa Catarina gave the Civil Police 20 days to retake statements and complement the investigation into an argument at the entrance of a condominium in Praia Brava, in Florianópolis. The investigation involves three adults indicted for coercion during the process and threat, during the investigation related to the death of the dog Orelha and the mistreatment of the dog Caramelo. According to the Civil Police, during the discussion at the condominium entrance, attacks and the death of a dog were mentioned.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office reinforces that this procedure does not investigate animal abuse or the participation of teenagers, but only conflict between adults. The MP pointed out gaps in the investigation and ordered new measures, such as in-person statements from a doorman and a security guard, in addition to the compilation of videos showing conversations between the suspects. The objective is to clarify the facts and identify those involved. After the investigations, the Civil Police must return the investigation to the MP, who will decide whether or not to file a complaint.
The MP also ordered the reestablishment of total confidentiality of the case, to protect teenagers cited in parallel proceedings, as provided for in the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA).
