Flávio Bolsonaro highlights rupture in Brazilian democracy in interview with French channel

by Marcelo Moreira

Senator and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) gave an interview, this Monday (9), to CNews TV, one of the main news channels in France. In the interview, he addressed the population of the European country to talk about the Brazilian political regime: “It is very important that all French people are aware that Brazil today does not live a full democracy. President Bolsonaro was condemned by his own enemies.”

Flávio is traveling to several countries to seek international support for his pre-candidacy. In Israel, he spoke at the International Conference to Combat Anti-Semitism in Israel, at the Knesset, the country’s Parliament, on which occasion he classified President Lula (PT) as an anti-Semite.

As examples of the national political situation, Flávio chose to deal with the fraud scheme involving associative discounts at the National Social Security Institute (INSS). He indirectly quoted Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha: “Today, Brazil is facing serious accusations of stealing pensioners from our social security system, with President Lula’s own son being accused of embezzling money.”

Flávio classifies Lula as “extreme left” and Macron as “extreme incompetence”

As chosen by former president Bolsonaro (PL) to be his successor in the 2026 elections, the senator chose the term “extreme left” to classify the Lula government and assessed Emmanuel Macron’s government as one of “extreme incompetence.”

“Brazil cannot handle another four years of an extreme left-wing government. Just like France, I believe, it cannot handle another mandate from a government of extreme incompetence like Emmanuel Macron’s, which has done so much harm to this country,” said Flávio.

In Europe, Brazil’s environmental policy is a recurring theme. The senator took the opportunity to address the issue, arguing that “the Amazon region was preserved during President Bolsonaro’s government, and now under President Lula’s current government, the Amazon has suffered three consecutive years of record fires.”

The parliamentarian was also asked about the nods between Lula and the President of the United States, Donald Trump. In response, he repositioned the events: “President Trump knows that Brazil has a very strategic position in global geopolitics today. Therefore, he needs to have good relations with Brazil, regardless of who the President of the Republic is.”
