Train drivers in Spain began a national strike this Monday (9). The Spanish train drivers’ union demands safety measures after three derailments in less than 48 hours and two fatal accidents in January.
Two high-speed trains collided in the south of the country, after a derailment caused by track failure, leaving 46 dead. Just two days later, a wall fell onto the tracks during a storm in Barcelona and killed the train driver.
The stoppage caused cancellations and delays across the country, especially on high-speed trains. The unions will maintain the strike until at least Wednesday.
