Italian court will hold hearing on Carla Zambelli’s extradition this Tuesday

by Marcelo Moreira

The Rome Court of Appeal is expected to decide this Tuesday (10) whether to extradite former deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), who has been imprisoned in the Italian capital since July 29, 2025. The hearing had been postponed after Zambelli’s defense requested, for the fourth time, a change of judges in the case.

In December, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) ordered the revocation of Zambelli’s mandate, revoking a previous decision by the Chamber of Deputies. Three days later, the former parliamentarian delivered a letter of resignation to the House.

Zambelli was sentenced by the STF to 10 years in prison for breaking into the systems of the National Justice Council, engaging in armed pursuit and fleeing to Italy after the trial’s decision. She is considered a fugitive from Brazilian justice
