On Friday (6), representatives from Iran and the USA held indirect talks in the capital of Oman, Muscat. According to authorities from both countries, new rounds of dialogue are planned for the coming days. A diplomat from the region, informed by Tehran about the negotiations, told Reuters that Iran insisted on the right to enrich uranium during the talks and that the issue of Iranian missiles was not addressed. Iranian authorities have already ruled out including their missile program — one of the largest in the Middle East — in the negotiations and say they seek international recognition of the right to uranium enrichment. In a statement, Netanyahu’s office stated that the prime minister advocates that any agreement include limits on Iran’s ballistic missiles and an end to Tehran’s support for allied groups in the region. Trump had already announced that negotiations with Iran will resume early next week, after a first round of “very good talks” held in Oman, with the aim of avoiding an escalation in tensions between the two countries. “We had very good conversations about Iran. It seems that Iran is very interested in closing a deal,” Trump told reporters on Friday night (6), aboard Air Force One, which was heading to his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. Also this Friday, the Iranian government reported that negotiations with the United States to avoid a military confrontation will continue, after highlighting the “very positive atmosphere” of the first meeting. “We will meet again early next week,” Trump said about resuming dialogue.
