Explosive attack leaves 31 dead and 170 injured in Pakistan

An attack carried out by a suicide bomber killed 31 people and injured 170 others at a Shiite mosque in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

The attack happened during a moment of prayer. It is the most lethal attack against the Shiite minority in a decade.

Attacks on Shiite mosques are not common in the Pakistani capital, which is heavily protected and was considered “shielded” from such attacks until the end of last year, when, in November, a suicide attack also hit the region, killing 11 people.
