Overland AI announced the raising of US$100 million to accelerate the production and operational integration of the ULTRA unmanned ground vehicle with the United States Armed Forces.
The investment, which includes venture capital and a $20 million debt line, marks the transition of ground autonomy from the experimental field to effective use in real military missions.
Designed to operate in complex terrain, off-road and even in environments without a GPS signal, ULTRA has already been employed in autonomous refueling missions following airborne insertions from the 82nd Airborne Division. The system has also been used in logistics in contested areas, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, counter-drone operations and breaching tasks in minefields and obstacles.
The technology’s maturity was driven by the company’s participation in DARPA’s RACER program, which over three years tested and refined robotic autonomy in challenging scenarios. Furthermore, the OverDrive architecture has been integrated into platforms such as the Textron Ripsaw M5, demonstrating the ability for a single operator to supervise multiple robotic vehicles on complex missions, reinforcing the concept of cooperation between humans and machines.

ULTRA is currently in operation with several U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and special operations unit formations, while Overland AI is also expanding civilian applications of the technology in partnership with CAL FIRE to combat wildfires.
With the new round of investments, the company intends to expand production, field support and systems maintenance, following the growing interest also from allied nations.
