Donald Trump’s government announced this Wednesday (4) that it will remove 700 ICE agents from Minnesota. The agents’ departure, although partial, is the government’s first move to reduce ICE’s presence in the state, given the deaths and waves of protests.
For days, thousands of people in Minneapolis have been protesting the deaths of two American protesters shot by federal agents and continue to mobilize the country. Large protests were recorded in several other cities.
In total, 3,000 agents had been sent to the state to implement Trump’s policy of hunting down and arresting undocumented immigrants. Just over 2,000 agents will remain in Minnesota, according to the government.
On Monday, United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said the government has begun distributing body cameras to all ICE agents. According to Noem, the program will be expanded throughout the country.
