The United States signed a $2.8 billion contract with Boeing to upgrade the fighter fleet F-15K Slam Eagle from South Korea.
According to a report from Defence Blogthe modernization will be carried out under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and is intended to maintain and enhance the aircraft’s combat capabilities.
Under the contract, launched by the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, the Boeing will be responsible for the design and development of an integrated suite of onboard systems, including updates to the aircraft’s avionics and computing architecture.
Although the full list of subcontractors has not been released, similar programs have typically included the installation of new radars Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), improved electronic warfare systems and modern secure communications equipment.

The modernization work will be carried out at the facilities of Boeing in St. Louis, Missouri (USA), and is expected to continue until December 31, 2037. The program is expected to allow South Korea to operate its fighter fleet F-15K to the mid-2030s and beyond.
