Germany is already nine IRIS-T handed over an air defense system to Ukraine, the Ukrainian reported Militarnyi portal.

The IRIS-T SLM missiles are capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 40 km, while SLS version can reach targets at a distance of up to 12 km.

Although Thoms admitted that this support was still insufficient, he reminded that at the end of 2025 Germany would need two more Patriot system to Ukraine and continues to provide ammunition for air defense systems.

“I know that this is still not enough. As I said, I live here, I understand the situation, I know the reality. But we will do everything we can and support Ukraine with the greatest possible effort,” added the ambassador.

Despite Thoms’ statement, however Boris PistoriusGermany’s Minister of Defense recently emphasized that Berlin can do no more Patriot to transfer systems from its own stocks to Ukraine, since it has already transferred more than a third of its existing arsenal.

Pistorius said Germany’s contribution was “disproportionately large” compared to other allies. Two Patriot system and that IRIS-T systems, the minister stated in December that he plans to AIM-9 Sidewinder delivery of missiles to Ukraine.
