A repair center for Marder infantry fighting vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has opened in northern Romania, near the Ukrainian border.

The facility, called Service Hub Satu Mare, was set up in a short period of time and is intended to accelerate the recovery of battle-damaged vehicles and maintain the operational readiness of the fleet deployed in the conflict.

According to Rheinmetall, the new center is fully equipped to carry out complex repairs, including repairing damage caused by combat operations. The strategic location near Ukraine shortens transport time and ensures rapid return of the armored vehicles to active service.

Germany has already delivered 140 Marder 1A3 units to the Ukrainian armed forces and publicly announced its intention to make further deliveries. As part of the so-called “Ring Exchange” program, the government of Chile has agreed to sell 30 Marder 1A3 vehicles from the Chilean army’s stocks to replenish German stocks.

The vehicles handed over by Rheinmetall were previously operated by the German land forces and will undergo extensive overhaul and modernization processes before being shipped to Ukraine. This step ensures that the armored vehicles arrive at the site in operational condition.

Developed in the 1960s on behalf of the German armed forces Marder has become one of the most famous infantry fighting vehicles in Europe. The model is equipped with a 20mm automatic cannon and a coaxial 7.62mm MG3 machine gun and provides fire support and protected transport for mechanized troops.
