The change was Trump’s response to protests over the death of nurse Alex Pretti, after being shot by immigration agents working in Minneapolis. Who is Tom Homan? Former United States Border Patrol agent, Tom Homan was tasked by Donald Trump with fulfilling the US president’s promise to carry out the largest deportation campaign in the country’s history at the beginning of his second term. Known as the “border czar,” Homan began the work at a rapid pace and, after hundreds of deportations in just the first week of the new government, said on TV: “It’s a great start, but we’re not done. We need more deportations, many more. And we’re working on it.” During Trump’s first term, he was widely criticized for being one of the defenders of separating children from families who immigrated illegally to the country. The new government was responsible for monitoring the borders with Mexico and Canada, in addition to maritime and air security focused on immigration issues.
