According to Satena, flight NSE 8849 had taken off at 11:42 am local time (1:42 pm in Brasília) and was expected to arrive around 12:05 pm (2:05 pm in Brasília). The aircraft, however, “reported its last contact with air traffic control at 11:54 am,” the airline said in a statement. Security and tracking protocols have been activated, according to the country’s aviation authority. Cúcuta and Ocaña are just 200 km away from each other, but the land connection is precarious, in the middle of a region of rugged terrain in the north of the country.
