North Korea tested a modernized large-scale multiple rocket launch system on January 27 (MLRS), as part of efforts to expand strategic military capabilities.

According to the state agency KCNA the test was personally attended by Kim Jong Un Jong Un and his daughter.

According to the official statement, four missiles were launched during the test, which struck maritime targets with high precision at a distance of 358,5 kilometer from the launch point.

North Korean authorities say the system includes new technologies aimed at increasing mobility, accuracy and the ability to operate even under external disruption attempts.

While attending the test, Kim Jong Un stated that the test represents an important advance for the country’s strategic deterrence, and stressed that the development of defense technologies is considered essential for national self-defense.

The North Korean leader added that other countries would not be able to reach the current technological level attributed to the tested system in the coming years.

According to KCNA, the test also included Kim from Sik present, first deputy head of a department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, as well as Jang Chang Ha, head of the General Directorate of Missile Construction.

Kim Jong Un Jong Un added that the next steps to strengthen the country’s strategic capabilities, including nuclear deterrence, will be discussed at the IXth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, which is expected to set the future guidelines of the state’s defense policy.

The test comes amid continued monitoring of North Korean launches by countries in the region, such as South Korea and Japan, and keeps international attention on North Korea’s military program Pyongyang high.
