The Court of Justice of Santa Catarina suspended, this Tuesday (27), the law that prohibits racial quotas in higher education in institutions that receive funds from the state government. The decision was made by judge Maria Luz, who responded to the suspension request made by the state directory of the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL).
The judge argued that the law should be suspended because the STF has already recognized the constitutionality of affirmative actions involving racial quotas in universities. The injunction establishes a period of 30 days for the Executive and the Legislative Assembly to provide information to the Judiciary.
Furthermore, the action also requests the immediate suspension of the law through a precautionary measure.
