One person was shot during a shootout involving the US Border Patrol in Arizona, this Tuesday (27). According to NBC News, the information was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Pima County Police Department. The individual, who has not been identified, was shot in south Pima County around 7:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Santa Rita Fire District. The fire department said it transported the person in critical condition. The circumstances that led to the incident have not been disclosed at this time, according to NBC. There is no information whether any member of the security forces was injured in the incident. The Department of Homeland Security has not commented on the case so far. Crews from the Santa Rita Fire District and American Medical Response provided medical care at the scene, according to the release. “The patient was transferred to a local medical helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center,” the fire department said. “The incident remains under investigation by law enforcement agencies.” The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI are assisting in the investigation. The FBI has also not commented so far. This shooting comes just three days after Border Patrol killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, and weeks after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and killed Renee Good. The deaths of Pretti and Good sparked citywide protests and led to criticism of the Department of Homeland Security, including calls for Secretary Kristi Noem to be fired.
