US President imposed a rate of 50% on all Brazilian products. Lula government considers document loaded with “untrue information” on trade balance between countries. Trump announces a 50% rate to Brazil at a second meeting on Wednesday (9) at Itamaraty, the Brazilian government told representatives of the US Embassy to return the letter from US President Donald Trump, addressed to Brazilian Lula. Trump’s document defines the 50% rate for all Brazilian products. On social network, Lula stated that the taxation will be answered based on the reciprocity law. “Brazil is a sovereign country with independent institutions that will not accept being protected by anyone,” he said. Brazilian ambassador responsible for North America and Europe, Maria Luisa Escorel led the meeting. She was wondering if Trump’s letter was true, as the government learned of the document in the press. Upon receiving the positive response from the US representative, the ambassador then said that Brazil returned it to the US government. To the blog, Itamaraty sources along with the meeting said the ambassador considered the letter “offensive” and “unacceptable”. According to these sources, the document was seen by the Brazilian government as loaded with “untrue information” about the US trade deficit with Brazil. Contrary to Trump’s letter, the US have accumulated surplus over Brazil since 2009. Following meetings this second meeting among members of the United States Embassy Ministry in Brazil took place at night. Earlier, in the afternoon, there was a first meeting to deal with publications made by Donald Trump and the embassy herself in favor of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The second meeting was hastily called after Trump made the letter directed to President Lula. Itamaraty had already informed, in the first meeting, that the bilateral relationship between the United States and Brazil would be affected by Trump’s actions by supporting former President Jair Bolsonaro and with attack on the Supreme Court (STF).
