Federal agents provide security at the scene of a shooting involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 24, 2026. Tim Evans/REUTERS The city of Minneapolis said it was investigating reports of a shooting involving agents from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on a street in the city, which is in the state of Minnesota. The incident would have occurred on Saturday morning (24). Witnesses interviewed by the local newspaper “The Minnesota Star Tribune” say the man was hit several times in the chest and taken to the hospital. The newspaper published a video taken by a witness, from inside a cafe, which shows at least seven agents trying to immobilize the man. They knock him to the ground, and one of them fires shots. An ambulance left the area after witnesses observed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers being performed on the man. The state governor, Tim Walz, stated, on social media, that he had already contacted the White House after the shooting. “Minnesota can’t take it anymore. This is disgusting,” Walz wrote. According to Reuters, following reports of new shootings, residents took to the streets to protest against the actions of federal immigration agents. Tension in Minnesota The state of Minnesota is under severe tension with the intensification of ICE operations. In one of them, on January 7, American citizen Renee Good was killed by gunshots fired by an ICE agent. The case triggered an open confrontation between the Trump administration and the state of Minnesota — both its political leaders and a large part of its population, which votes predominantly for the Democratic Party. The most recent chapter in the conflict is the arrest of at least four children, one of whom was used as “bait” to try to arrest his family. The case occurred on Tuesday (20), but only came to light on Thursday (22). Liam Conejo Ramos, 5 years old, is detained by agents from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after arriving home from preschool, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 Ali Daniels via AP US Vice President JD Vance was quick to defend ICE’s action, which is a constant movement in Washington: since Good’s murder, both Trump and other members of the White House have expressed support for the service immigration department and the person who shot the protester, agent Jonathan Ross. Last Friday (23), the population of Minneapolis and the entire state took to the streets in protest against ICE’s brutality. Restaurants, stores and cultural institutions closed their doors after the call for protests. Organizers say that more than 700 establishments across the state were closed. Other demonstrations took place in cities across the USA. This report is being updated.
