A 5-year-old boy was taken by agents from the United States Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) this Tuesday (23), in Minneapolis. According to city education authorities, the child had been used as bait by the immigration police to check if there was anyone else in the residence.
The boy, identified as Liam Conejo Ramos, was allegedly taken from the family car when he returned from school with his father. Both are being held at an ICE facility in Texas. According to witnesses, an agent took the child to the door of the house and instructed him to knock, asking to enter, with the aim of checking if there were other people in the place, using a 5-year-old boy as bait.
In a statement, ICE stated that the agency “did not, and has never, used a child as bait” and that the boy had been “abandoned” because his father “fled on foot” upon realizing the presence of the agents. The Department of Homeland Security reported that the father, a native of Ecuador, was the target of the operation.
