The Russian consortium Uralvagonzavod has published a video which shows the delivery of a new batch of the armored engineer support vehicle IMR-3M to the Russian Armed Forces. The delivery took place on the eve of the country’s Engineer Troops Day.

According to the consortium, IMR-3M is used intensively in the conflict in Ukraine. Operational experience and feedback from military personnel have led to recent upgrades to the vehicle, which now has electronic warfare systems and additional protection against drones, in line with measures also introduced on tanks.

The IMR-3M is a third-generation engineering vehicle developed on the platform of the main battle tank T-90, with enhanced level of radiation protection. The vehicle is designed to directly support the advance of military columns, opening routes and overcoming obstacles in combat environments.

Among the main equipment is a universal hydraulically driven digging bucket and a multi-functional telescopic arm that can function as a manipulator, gripper, bucket with straight or inverted blade as well as a scraper excavator. The demining system with electromagnetic extension enables the IMR-3M to pass minefields on its own and establish safe passages for other vehicles.

The armored vehicle is also equipped with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) reconnaissance systems, and can cross water obstacles (such as rivers or canals) without the use of bridges or ferries, down to a depth of up to five meters. The total weight is 50.8 tonnes, with a maximum speed of 50 km/h on the road and a range of around 500 km.

Propulsion is provided by a four-stroke multifuel V-84MS diesel engine with an output of 840 hp. As defensive armament can IMR-3M be equipped with a 12.7 mm NSVT machine gun.

One of the system’s outstanding features is the possibility of remote operation. The vehicle can be remotely controlled via a portable console or operate autonomously after pre-programming an action algorithm for a specific route, increasing crew safety in high-risk scenarios.
