Trump once again highlights Gaza’s real estate potential

US President Donald Trump presented details of his plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip during the launch of his Peace Council at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this Thursday (22).

The American leader once again highlighted the real estate potential of the Palestinian enclave in images released through slides at the ceremony.

“I’m a real estate professional at heart, and it all comes down to location. I said: look at this beachfront location, look at this beautiful property. (…) It’s a great location for the real estate market, close to the sea,” he said.

Then, Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, presented details of the architectural project for the development of the enclave, destroyed in the war between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.

In a first projection, Trump’s team showed the territory of Gaza with colors representing planned locations for tourist developments, industrial complexes (including data centers), sports facilities, parks, agricultural land and residential areas.

Another slide depicts “the new Gaza”, with skyscrapers along the coast, a transport hub and technological and energy industrial enterprises. According to the project, 180 skyscrapers are expected to be built along the entire coastline and 100,000 housing units in Rafah, a city located south of the Strip, on the border with Egypt.

In addition, data on economic growth, increased family income and job creation over a ten-year period were presented.

Kushner, a member of the founding executive board of the Peace Council established today by Trump, pointed out that the new phase of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip will only be possible with the demilitarization of Hamas.

Within this framework, heavy weapons must be confiscated immediately, while personal weapons must be registered and removed from service, until security is re-established by the police forces of the new National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

According to Kushner’s presentation, disarmament will be rewarded with amnesty, reinstatement or safe conduct out of the territory.

With this stage completed, the reconstruction project will begin in Rafah – phase 1A – and advance to the north, without specifying a timetable. The final phase, the fourth, corresponds to the capital of the enclave, Gaza City.

Trump had already presented a plan for Gaza, but was criticized

In February last year, President Donald Trump released a video generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) that showed urban development in Gaza, with futuristic buildings and resorts.

At the time, he dubbed the project the “Riviera of the Middle East” and defended an American “occupation” of the enclave, which quickly became the target of condemnation from the international community.
