A survey carried out by the New York Times between January 12 and 17 showed that 56% of Americans disapprove of Donald Trump’s work as president of the United States. 40% said they approved and 4% did not respond. 1,625 people were interviewed. The survey also indicated that less than a third of voters consider that the country is in a better situation than it was a year ago, when Trump returned to the White House. The majority of those interviewed also believe that the president has prioritized the wrong topics. The survey also addressed ten aspects of Americans’ perception of his management (see the graph below). ✅ Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp United States President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum on January 21, 2026 REUTERS/Denis Balibouse Although Trump turns 80 this year and is the oldest president to serve his term, voters do not see his age as an obstacle in the same way they saw Joe Biden’s age. 40% say he is too old to be effective, while 58% disagree. That number has remained virtually unchanged since October 2024. “I think he must be doing something right, considering how many people are opposing him,” Paul Minihane, 77, a real estate agent living in Massachusetts, told New York T.mes. “I mean, Donald Trump could look me in the eye and tell me to fuck off. And I’d say, ‘Thank you.’ I think that’s good.” The survey also asked whether Americans consider Donald Trump to be on track to be one of the best presidents in American history, an average president or one of the worst. The assessment was responded to by Democrats and Republicans.
