The Thai Armed Forces deployed several versions of the Ukrainian BTR-3 armored personnel carrier in battles against Cambodia in late 2025.

Images shared on social media show the operational use of the BTR-3E1, BTR-3RK models and the BTR-3M1/M2 self-propelled mortar systems in ground operations.

According to the released information, the armored vehicles participated in operations in urban areas and around disputed locations, working alongside modernized American M60A3 TIFCS tanks that provided direct support to the Thai troop offensive.

The versions of the BTR-3 used serve different roles on the battlefield. The BTR-3E1 is the basic configuration and the most widespread version, while the BTR-3RK is equipped with anti-tank systems. The BTR-3M1 and BTR-3M2 models are intended for artillery support and act as self-propelled mortar platforms.

The presence of these vehicles in Thailand is the result of contracts concluded with Ukraine starting in 2007, when Bangkok purchased 96 units. In the following years, new agreements expanded the number of armored vehicles and partial local production was established. The last deliveries took place in 2016, cementing the BTR-3 as one of the premier armored vehicles in service with the Royal Thai Army.
