Trump sends second wave of letters announcing more import rates to six countries

by Marcelo Moreira

United States President Donald Trump announced more tariffs on imports from six countries on Wednesday. He sent a second wave of letters, now to Algeria, Brunei, Iraq, Libya, Moldova and Philippines. Fees range from 20 to 30%.

On Monday (7), the Republican sent letters to 14 nations, and on the same day, the White House spokesman said there would be “additional letters in the coming days.” On Tuesday (8), Trump also threatened to apply a 50% rate on imported copper.

The rates of tariffs rekindle a warning about Trump’s trade war, and the Republican has been trying to sign agreements with business partners, but so far has come to an understanding with China, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. The new US import rates, which will affect almost every country in the world, are expected to take effect on August 1st.
