“It’s not something that I’m proud of,” she confessed, “but I’m happy we see more Black Latina faces on television now. People aren’t so hung up on little things like that, and they allow you to come in for your talents.”
In fact, Christina has adopted that same approach when teaching her kids—who now all live with her and Matt in France—how to embrace their cultural heritage in a new environment.
“We are a very close-knit family,” she told Parents last October. “My mom is like the pinnacle of the family, and the matriarch. I think between the music, [Violet] is very aware of Celia Cruz. And just like any other Latina artist out there, music really runs through our veins as well as the food, and [other aspects] of the culture.”
She added, “We still speak Spanish to each other sometimes. But, we’ve come to learn other languages like French now, too.”
