The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday (20) that only Washington can protect Greenland and attacked Europe which, according to him, “is not going in the right direction”.
The republican’s statement was made during the World Economic Forum in Davos. Trump began his speech hours late due to problems with his flight to Switzerland.
“I have tremendous respect for the people of Greenland and Denmark, but no nation or group of nations has the ability to guarantee the security of Greenland other than the United States,” he said. “We are a very strong country, more so than people think, look what we did a few weeks ago in Venezuela”
According to Donald Trump, “only the United States can protect this enormous land mass”, when referring to Greenland. In a speech at the World Economic Forum, the republican, when mentioning Denmark, stated that “gratitude is lacking”.
“Greenland is in a very strategic place between the United States, Russia and China. We returned it because it wasn’t as important as it is now. It has nothing to do with rare earths, but we don’t need it exactly because of that, we need it because of American and international national security,” he said.
“It’s only the United States that can defend this large piece of land and make it good for Europe, for us. That’s why I’m seeking immediate negotiation to, once again, try to acquire Greenland by the United States,” he added.
Trump says he won’t use force to get Greenland
Donald Trump said he will not use force to obtain Greenland during a speech at the Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
“We’ve never asked for anything and we’ve never received anything. I think I could use great force, but I won’t do that, that’s probably the biggest speech I’ve ever given. But I’m not going to use force. All the United States is asking for is Greenland,” Trump said.
“All I’m asking for is a piece of ice that can play a vital role in protecting the world,” said Trump, complaining about the cost the US incurs in protecting European allies who, according to him, do not reciprocate the effort.
Attack Europe
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday (21) that Europe “is not going in the right direction” during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
“I hope you can follow what we do, because some places in Europe are no longer recognizable, frankly. I don’t want to insult anyone, but I don’t recognize them anymore and that’s not in a positive way. I want to see Europe doing well, but it’s not going in the right direction,” Trump said.
War in Ukraine and NATO
According to Donald Trump, the United States was treated in a very bad and unfair way by NATO. “We gave a lot, but got little in return. I have been very critical of NATO for many years, I have done more than any other president.”
“The war in Ukraine is an example. It might not have started if, in 2020, the election didn’t have the result it did and, soon, people will be prosecuted for what they did,” he said. “We have to have strong borders, strong elections, fair and transparent, and also a fair media.”
